Filing Cabinet Redo Project

Thought I would share my recent project. . .

I've been wanting some type of filing cabinet for the past several months to help me get organized! Everywhere I looked they were really boring though... or expensive. So, my mom found this old cabinet with 3 filing drawers & a storage cabinet attached at an old antique place in Kansas City. It was just $30. As you can see, it was in pretty bad shape so it definitely needed some help :) After a much needed makeover, this is the before & after. . .
My sweet husband helping me sand it. . . (which took way longer than we thought it would, especially in this heat!)
I spray-painted the front & top a light turquoise color and the sides & cabinet door a bronze color. Then, I designed a fun pattern for the front of the drawers and printed it on wall paper at my work. You could use any type of scrapbook paper or wall paper for the front. I just used mod podge to stick the wall paper to the drawers & trimmed the edges with an x-acto knife. Last, I just cut slits where the handles went and put those back on. That's it, now I have a cute filing cabinet & feel so much more organized!
It fits nicely right next to my desk
If anyone has an old filing cabinet, this can be a pretty easy project to give your cabinet a makeover!

Wow! That is one of the coolest things I've seen lately!!! What a great idea!!! I'm going to have to do that sometime. I've been needing a filing cabinet, but they are usually so ugly. It could become a focal point, if I do what you did. Thanks! - Julie, NWA Boutique Show staff
